From Athlete to Studio Owner 

Mikey played college soccer on a scholarship. When that chapter ended, personal training was where he landed, and where it clicked. Until the gym started taking more than its share. 

“I loved personal training. But unfortunately with big box gyms, they take a lot of your money. You can have a big client book, train all these hours, and at the end of the day, they take the majority.” 

His college roommate Shane had a different idea, and during COVID, he opened the first The 1 Fitness location in Gahanna. A salon suite model with no revenue split. Just trainers and clients doing the work in a space that was actually theirs. 

That was the spark. Four to five years later, Mikey and partner Shane took it further, opening The 1 Fitness at Evans Farm with a full-service boutique. Evans Farm celebrated its one-year anniversary in May with a total of 450 members and almost no marketing spend. A third location is already on the horizon.           

The Challenge 

Two locations might sound manageable. But two locations running completely different business models, with different memberships, services, teams, and two communities expecting the same level of attention, is another thing entirely.

On the staff side, the Glofox Pro app keeps trainers moving. They can manage schedules, handle assigned tasks, and process transactions for products like protein shakes and energy drinks without leaving the floor or opening a laptop. The member experience extends to every message they receive too. Trainers communicate directly through the Pro app, so every text feels like it’s coming from The 1 Fitness, because it is.

FUTURE 

What’s Next for The 1 Fitness? Evans Farm is one year old and already outgrowing its own ambitions. A third location is in the pipeline, the team is expanding, and one of the trainers has grown into an operations lead role: a sign of what the business is becoming, not just where it started. The mission remains the same: build a fitness community in Columbus where people can train, recover, and feel like they belong.
